A Voice For The Fans ~ Silly Season Comes in Like a Lion

by: PattyKay Lilley

Good day race fans, and welcome to the column that speaks up for what you're thinking. The road course weekend is behind us now, but dang, it was fun, wasn't it? The Nationwide gang put on a great show at Road America (Where I wish that Cup would race as well) with a new kid on the block, Nelson Piquet Jr. taking home the marbles, but managing not to be the star of the show. I think that honor has to be awarded to Danica Patrick, whom many said would be like a lost lamb in a pack of wolves out there on the road with all those men. The lady ran one heck of a race all the way to the last lap where, after being in the top-five the entire race, she was summarily booted back to 12th place by Jaques Villenueve. (Jack the Villain?)

Meanwhile, at Sonoma (or whatever they eventually decide to call Sears Point) we saw a classic duel between Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch for many, many laps. Clint stood victorious in the end, with Busch fading to third behind Tony Stewart after breaking a panhard bar near the end of the race.  This weekend, it's Kentucky. Bourbon, anyone? Beware, it will boil in the predicted temperatures at the track.
