What Happened to the Wind Wings?Frankly, I had always called them vent windows until I saw “Thunder Road”. Remember the scene where Robert Mitchum pulls into the drop site garage after a run-in with the Revenuers? He was on the phone telling his “boss” about the run and advising that he needed a new “left wind wing” because the one in his Ford had been shot by the Revenuers. The point to the “Thunder Road”recall is that I really miss the wind wings that were in most all cars up through about 1971 or so. I like to ride with the window down more often than not and the wind wing was just the right thing to direct air my way AND, more importantly, keep the wind from whipping around in my left ear. I am already mostly deaf in my right ear and I don’t need to lose hearing in the left ear because of wind blowing directly into the ear. I wish the auto makers would go back to putting those in cars.
