I’m sure many of you have heard of the “gray area” wherein many of the NASCAR teams work. Some such notables are Smokey Yunick, Gary Nelson, and, of course, Chad Knaus. For the intents and purposes of that “gray area” we refer to the elusive NASCAR Rule Book in which many specifics are set out in black and white while other areas are no so quite defined. It is therein that the resourceful find unique ways to gain an advantage. That is, of course, until NASCAR figures out what is going on and puts a stop to it. Sometimes the “gray areas” are then converted to black and white ink, but just as often such changes to the rules are “penciled in” until NASCAR finds another way to manipulate what it desires.
