Glad to see you beat out Trickle by so much. He was your pavement counterpart. I literally watched him win hundreds of races at the Dells, Wis. Speedway where I ran the Ambulance service, becoming an EMT at age 16 for extra money. Of course I watched him before and after that too almost always winning in inverted field starts. Nobody thought anything of it in those days. Not to be judgemental, but Billy, you set by far the better example as opposed to Dick. He would help anyone with all but his deepest secrets mind you, that's how they raced a 5 track per week circuit back in the 70's but he was not to be trusted. The old saying about Dick was that he was the best husband in the world when his wife was standing right next to him! When she wasn't, he was a man of an entirely different direction. The truly good guys were Larry Detjens, Marv Marzofka, Jim Sauter, didn't know him too well, but Joe Shear was said to be, needless to say, this was quite the circuit. Dave Marcis, a good guy, started there, later the second generation Sauters, Reffners, Tom and Ted Musgrave, Richie Bickle Sr. and Jr., Dave Watson, Jimmy Back, John Ziegler, the list was endless. This was just a normal Saturday Night of the races. To think, occaisional one or more of these guys didn't even make the feature. It was a golden age as they say. Even famous Dirt Trackers like Willie Goeden, Harold Mueller, JJ Smith, Wally Jors, Pete Parker, Tom Nesbitt from Canada, they would run there often. I always wanted to drive myself and think I'd have been very good, I was patient and had a good seat of the pants feel, but I'll tell you, I was blessed just to have been a part of it in some way.Dave B.Dave and Annette B.
