Death of a Race Car.........Maybe!

"But I couldn't believe itI just had to find out for myself. And I couldn't conceive it'Cause I never would have listened to nobody else. And I couldn't believe it.I just had to find out for myself. There's some things in this world you justcan't explain."Charlie Daniels- "The Legend of Wooley Swamp"There's probably a graduate genetics degree, just for the taking, simply by de-coding the DNA that makes people think AND say......."I better not get rid of that old car.........cause one of these days.......I'M GONNA FIX IT UP (lol)........" But there's a lot more 'um to go-around; gems that I've heard over the last 40 years........"I'm gonna make a TRAILER out of it"................... "I wouldn't sell that for nuthin' in the world".......... "That old car belonged to my son......and I a'int gonna get rid of it......." and the classic: "It's a monument........to remind me of where my money went"But here's the head-banging part: the NEXT time that old car is seen (if it CAN be seen for the native vegetation), yes, YEARS later, it's still sitting in the SAME spot, sadly becoming ONE with nature or (just as bad) becoming fodder for the crusher. Over the years I've heard such head-banging philosophers offer me this rationale over my futile quests for: '41 Ford coupe, '55 chevy 210 sedan, '31 Model A sedan, '30 Model A coupe, '57 Chevy stock car......AND a '55 Chevy stocker that's the focus here.I 'found' this particular car this past Christmas eve, amid much dog barking, and was able to determine( from the owner's sister) such critical info as a phone number. The phone number connected me to the owner who was in Pennsylvania and HAD been for a long time. After a little memory prodding he remembered his old car..........the one that was "a monument".....and he, naturally, wasn't sure if he wanted to get rid of it.....because he just might "fix it up again....." But, honestyl , I could almost hear the gears turning........."if YOU (me) wants my old car, then maybe somebody else does too, I just might have something VALUABLE on my hands........" and so the conversation ended with the classic....."let me think about it and I'll get back with you........."But, honestly isn't a RESTORED race car a much better monument than one silently dissolving? So, my fellow Americans...........if there happens to be one in your back or (if you are really lucky) your front yard, regardless of the number of surrounding trees, briars, bushes, and barking dogs....... it can have a new life, and there's plenty of us, right here on RacersReunion just wantin' to give it one..........remember..........a junked race car that's left... JUNKED..... well, that just don't make no sense!

Good Bobby I understand now and have heard that story before. I once bought a 1932 Ford Coke Truck, you could still read the Coke logo through the rust on the doors, paid $150.00 for it. Pulled it out of the woods in Blackstone, VA and towed it back home with a wrecker dolly.
