This week, I share the story of a fast time at Atlanta Motor Speedway over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Last Saturday, I joined several volunteers for the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame at Atlanta Motor Speedway for the track's open house festivities. While there, I spent time with Jackie Smith, son of Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Jack Smith, who was kind enough to bring his dad's race car out there. Late in the day, the opportunity to pilot the vintage Pontiac around the 1.5 mile speedway came about. Jackie took them up on the offer, but made a driver change, putting me behind the wheel! It was a heck of an experience, and one I'm very happy to share with you this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

In case you missed it last week, we received word, due to family illness, Susan Milam Morgan has cancelled plans for the West Atlanta Raceway/7 Flags Raceway reunion, which had been scheduled for March 20. Susan's mother has fallen gravely ill, and we ask that you please keep her and her entire family in your prayers over the coming days. Susan said that anybody who had pre-paid will get a full refund, so you should be hearing from her soon. Again, all of our thoughts and prayers are with Susan and her family at this time.

The second annual Athens Speedway Reunion is set for April 9 at the South Jackson County Elementary School between Athens and Jefferson on Highway 129. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donald Brooks, Freddie Massey and Charles Burkhalter, Jr. are working hard on this year's event, and it looks to be a great one! For more information, call Freddie Massey at (706) 543-4249. We'll see you there!

And, plans are underway for the second annual Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Night at Gresham Motorsports Park (the official race track of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame) on April 23. Hall of Fame members get in free with their special track pass (if you didn't get yours last year, no problem - we still have them in hand for you!), with a big autograph session planned for all our Hall of Famers! Plus, the 2010 Hall of Fame inductees, Ted Edwards, Ernie Elliott, Jack Etheridge, Laverne Kendrick and Jerry Wimbish will be honored in a special pre-race ceremony on the track's front stretch. We'll have more information as we get closer to the event, but you can have a look at photos from last year's event here , and get more information on Gresham Motorsports Park here .

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on March 21 in memory of Fonty Flock (1920-1972).

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
