This week, we remember a scary moment in NASCAR racing history that resulted in the loss of three people, including a Georgia Racing Hall of Famer, over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Jerry Elzey was in the pits at Darlington in September of 1960, working as a member of Paul McDuffie's crew. The team was running high off their recent victory with driver Joe Lee Johnson in the World 600 at Charlotte, and came to Darlington looking for more success. The team had just completed a pit stop and making plans for the rest of the race when tragedy struck. When it was all over, Paul McDuffie, Charles Sweatland and NASCAR official Joe Taylor were dead. Elzey told his story to Eddie Samples a few years back, and Eddie shares that story with us this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Saturday, May 28 will mark the Grand Reopening of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville. Festivities will take place all day, with a pancake breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and lunch by the famous Dawsonville Pool Room. There will be a driver autograph session, ribbon cutting, car show and, of course, tours of the Hall of Fame. The Hall is located at 415 Hwy 53 East in Dawsonville. For directions, go to www.georgiaracinghof.com or give us a call at (706) 216-RACE for more info. We can't wait to see you there.

Plus, plans are already underway for the fourth annual Lakewood Speedway Reunion at the Hall of Fame on Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. More details to follow!

Our deepest sympathies go out this week to Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Jimmy Mosteller on the loss of his sister Elizabeth Meadows. Services were held on Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy and his family at this time.

Thanks to all of you who came out last Saturday for Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Night at Gresham Motorsports Park. 2010 Hall of Fame inductees, Ted Edwards, Ernie Elliott, Jack Etheridge, Laverne Kendrick and Jerry Wimbish were honored in a special pre-race ceremony on the track's front stretch. Thanks again, and watch this space for more information on other Hall of Fame recognition events coming in the near future!

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on May 2 to Ken Butler.

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
