This week, we travel back to the scene of one of the classic Georgia short tracks for a look around over at Georgia Racing History.com .

When Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Tommie Irvin opened Banks County Speedway in 1955, it was the birth of one of the most popular short tracks in North Georgia.

Everybody came to Banks County to race. Names like Tootle Estes , Buck Simmons , Bud Lundsford , Bobby Whitmire and more did battle in the hills just south of Baldwin, Georgia. Running mostly as a dirt track, with a brief amount of time spent as a paved track in the mid 60s, until the track closed in the early 70s.

This week, we take a look back at a personal tour of the track and its history over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Some sad news this week, as we learned that Chip Prance , father of Georgia racer Will Prance , passed away. The thoughts and prayers of all of us here at GRH.com go out to the Prance family at this time.

If you're planning on going out to the Advocare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day Weekend, make sure to look for the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame's display there at the track! Several of our Hall of Famers will be on hand to sign autographs, meet the fans and be part of the great race weekend! Plus, members of the 2010 GRHOF class will be introduced to the crowd as part of the opening ceremonies! A special thanks goes out to Ed Clark and his staff at AMS for all their giving and hard work to help us honor our Hall of Fame members and to spread the word about the GRHOF! For more info on the race, visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com .

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Sept. 7 to Donnie Allison and on Sept. 8 to Frank Warren and Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Randy Payne .Thanks everybody, and have a great week!
