This week, Georgia Racing Historian Eddie Samples takes a look at a NASCAR great over at Georgia Racing History .com .

Racing out of Tennesee, Joe Lee Johnson was a terror on southern short tracks. He moved up the ranks to be NASCAR's convertible series champion before driving for Georgia Racing Hall of Fame member Paul McDuffie. The duo won the inaugural World 600 at Charlotte in 1960, but a tragedy later that same year ended the relationship and changed the course of Johnson's career.

This week, we remember Joe Lee Johnson over at
Georgia Racing History .com .
