This week, we take a look at one of Georgia's many lost speedways with historian Mike Bell over at Georgia Racing History.com .

On US Highway 129 between Ocilla, Georgia and Alapaha, you'll find several plowed fields. But a close look at the black soil in one particular field will reveal remains of red Georgia clay. That's the remains of the Ocilla Speedway, built by Marion Buddy Green, Sr., in 1950.

The 3/8 mile track, which was built, maintained and run by Mr. Green, drew racers from as far away as Atlanta and Tallahassee, and would prove to be a popular and exciting track for racers and race fans in the area.

Mike Bell tells us about the history of the Ocilla Speedway and those that raced there this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

In other news, congratulations to Wausau, Wisconsin driver Chris Wimmer on winning the 28th annual World Crown 300, and congratulations to Georgia Racing Hall of Fame 2011 Driver of the Year Bubba Pollard for his victory in the inaugural Beau Slocumb Memorial 100 Pro Late Model feature on Saturday, both at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Georgia.

Also, congratulations to second generation racer Brian Sosebee on his Sportsman victory during the World Crown Weekend. Sosebee's victory came on the 15 year anniversary of the passing of his father, Gober Sosebee, whom he dedicated the win to in victory lane.

If you weren't able to make it out to GMP for the World Crown weekend, you can have a look at all the action and results by visiting the World Crown coverage page at our sister site, Raceweek Illustrated .

No birthday wishes to pass along this week, so if you know of any we don't know about, please share them with us!

Thanks everybody, and have a great week!
