NASCAR's New Season Didn't Always Wait For The New Year

This week, take a look at the history of season openers over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Did you know that on 14 seasons, the opening event or events for a new NASCAR Sprint Cup season occurred during the previous year? For example, the season opening event for the 1955 season occurred in November of 1954.

This would be the norm for several years, sometimes with the new season opener happening a week after the previous season's final event! You can read more about this odd NASCAR history footnote, which had several chapters written in Georgia, this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

In other news, the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers held their Hall of Fame induction banquet last Friday, Dec. 9 at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame at Talladega. It was a great event, and we just want to thank them for making the Georgia contingent feel very welcome. We can't wait to see you folks again next year. For more info on the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers, visit here .

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Dec. 17 in memory of Lee Petty (1914-2000) and on Dec. 22 to David Pearson.

Thanks everybody, and have a great week!
