Sorry to everyone for the delay in this week's update. We had some internet outages in our area Thursday night/Friday morning, and we decided to push the update back 24 hours as a result. Thanks for your understanding.

This week, we look back a race track outside of the Peach State that never should have failed over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Recently, we've been doing research on the Atlanta Motordrome, a 2 mile speedway built just south of Atlanta around 1908-1909. The fate of the big track brought to mind a more recent track that is also lost, but shouldn't have been.

The Ontario Motor Speedway was constructed in 1970. It was an updated version of its sister track, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It hosted NASCAR, IndyCar and even the NHRA. But just a little over 10 years after it was constructed, the massive track, with state of the art amenities for drivers and fans, was wiped off the face of the earth. We look at the history and the fate of Ontario this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

In other news, plans are underway for the third annual Athens Speedway Reunion, to be held April 14, 2012 at South Jackson Elementary School near Jefferson, GA from 10 am - 4 pm. For more info, contact Freddie Massey at 706-543-4249, Donald Brooks at 706-658-7006 or Charles Burkhalter, Jr. at 706-207-0516.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on March 2 to Bubba Farr, on March 3 in memory of Tiny Lund (1927-1975) and on March 8 in memory of Ethel Flock-Mobley (1920-1984).

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
