Hi folks, I hope everyone is doing well week. We take a look at one of the most successful South Georgia race teams this week at Georgia Racing History.com .

With a host of talented drivers behind the wheel, the Cooper Brothers were a force to be reckoned with on all kind of tracks. Racing out of Ray City, GA, the brothers, Johnny, James, and Tommy (aka Skeeter) would field successful race cars on dirt tracks, asphalt tracks, and even in NASCAR events over the years. This week, our own Mike Bell tells us the story of the Cooper Brothers and their racing careers over at Georgia Racing History.com .

In other news, planning is now underway for the 5th annual Lakewood Speedway Reunion at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame on Aug. 11. Tickets in advance are $15, and $20 at the door. We'll have a big announcement next week on the focus of this year's event, as well as on some very special guests that will be with us. For now, visit here for more information.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on on July 30 to Ricky Sanders and in memory of Neil Bonnett (1946-1994), and on July 31 to Georgia Racing Hall of Famer Buck Simmons and in memory of Louise Smith (1916-2006).

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!

North Carolina had its own Cooper brothers, both NASCAR Grand National drivers - the late Bob and Doug Cooper of Gastonia. Doug was awarded the 1964 Grand National Rookie of the Year title over my first GN hero, JT. Putney.
