This week, we take a look at an event held last weekend in memory of one of the great speedways in Georgia's history over at Georgia Racing History.com .

On Saturday, March 6, fans, former racers and officials from the old Athens Speedway got together at the Bogart Community Center in Bogart, Georgia, located just a few miles away from the site of the legendary old speedway.

Around 400 people came out to the inaugural event, which promises to become an annual happening for fans of Georgia's racing history for years to come.

You can have a look at some of the sights and attendees at the Athens Speedway Reunion by visiting Georgia Racing History.com .

In other news, Dale Terry's Georgia Stock Car Racing e-newsletter reports that 2009 Georgia Racing Hall of Fame inductee Ronnie Sanders will be undergoing surgery to battle colon cancer on March 15. Please keep Ronnie and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, 2006 GRHOF inductee Hubert Platt suffered a broken hip due to a fall in his Forsyth County home. Fred Simmons reported via email last week that Platt was resting comfortably at an area hospital, and his spirits and voice sounded really good over the telephone. Please keep Hubert and his family in your thoughts and prayers as well.

By the way, Gresham Motorsports Park will be kicking off their season on Saturday by hosting a CRA Super Late Model event. Tickets are available. You can call 706-367-9461 on go online to GreshamMotorsportsPark.com .

If you can't make it out there for some reason, I will be hosting the live website of all the events from trackside on the track's website, GreshamMotorsportsPark.com . Be sure to join us online if you can't be with us in person!

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on March 12 in memory of Red Byron (1915-1960), and on March 17 to "Tiger Tom" Pistone.

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
