Hersey Tragedy Serves As A Reminder

This week, we take a look back at one of the darkest moments in Georgia's racing history in a column at Georgia Racing History.com .

On June 11, 1950, the NSCRA held a 100-lap event at the famed Lakewood Speedway. It was a sunny, fast paced day at the fairgrounds with an event that saw Georgia Racing Hall of Famer Jack Smith leading in the later stages.

But with 19 laps to go, fate intervened on what had been a great day at the races. A crash in the track's treacherous first turn would take the life of a talented Florida racer, and leave a chilling memory that continues today. You can read more about it at Georgia Racing History.com .

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on March 21 in memory of Fonty Flock (1920-1972).

Thanks everybody, and have a great weekend!
