This week over at Georgia Racing History.com , Eddie Samples tells us the story of one of Georgia's true racing greats.

In his early days, it seemed Wrightsville, Georgia's Bruce Brantley was destined to be one of Georgia's drag racing greats. But in 1961, his career took a left turn, and would keep on taking them as he ventured onto the oval tracks of the state, and would race into the history books and eventually into the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame.

Samples tells us Bruce's story this week over at Georgia Racing History.com .

Preperations are underway for the eighth annual Induction Banquet for the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. This year, five new members will be added to the ranks of Georgia's greats, including Ted Edwards, Ernie Elliott, Jack Etheridge, Laverne Kendrick and Jerry Wimbish. The banquet will be held on the evening of Oct. 22, and will include some new features that we've never had at any previous event, including a special recognition of all our past inductees! In other news, Gresham Motorsports Park, the official track of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, has annoucned that they will be holding a very special event next month. The September 18 Super Late Model event at the track will be titled the George Elliott Memorial 100 Presented By Monolith Companies. The event - which was suggested by Russ Sutton of Monolith - will honor Elliott, who helped countless racers with their careers throughout his 40-year racing career. Elliott, a lifelong Dawsonville, GA resident who passed away in 1998, is also the father of NASCAR racing greats Bill, Ernie and Dan Elliott.

In Elliott's honor, the track will be holding a pre-race autograph session for the fans, including several members of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. For more on this event, go here .

Word this week is that 2009 GRHOF inductee Katron Sosebee is recovering nicely after recently suffered a heart attack. Please continue to keep Katron and his family in your thoughts and prayers, and we hope to see him up and around very soon.

Happy Birthday wishes go out this week on Sept. 17 to Sam Sommers, on Sept. 21 to Vince Whitmire and on Sept. 22 in memory of Red Vogt (1904-1991).
