Time to add a Dirt Track category

I love racing and have since 1972. But Dirt Track ain't my type of racing. I know many, many love the dirt cars and the teams, but I'm not one of them. I grew up going to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC and use to love it. But as I got older I cared less and less for the dirt tracks and more for the Grand National and Sportsman racing. I'm not saying that asphalt is better or anything like that, all I'm saying is, for me, I'd rather take a beating than sit in the clouds of dust and watch "Tri-Angles" drive in circles. Now the cars run on 3 wheels and carry the left front in the air. Just not for me.If I had my way, all the dirt track pictures would be in a seperate collection just for dirt track racing. I wish there was a way to filter the type of racing picture by type, then I wouldn't have to spend so much time flipping through the dirt cars to get to what I like. Please understand, I do not want to upset anyone with my thoughts. I understand that many people feel just the opposite of the way I do and would rather see only dirt cars. I think it's time that RR develop a category just for asphalt and another just for dirt. Those are my thoughts, what are yours.Bumpertag in Gaffney, SC

Man o man are you opening up a can of worms there---anybody almost can run on pavement ---------B U T ------- you go haul tail down a dirt road or come on out on the track and go "wfo" and sail off into a turn without mind you even touching the brakes but throw the car sideways and come out on the other side up against the wall still going boogity boogity... Now thats a thrill you cant get at carowinds or 6 flags on any ride... tell you what ive got a CTS CADDY type R ,you come out to the local dirt track and i will take you for a cool ride ---in comfort no less--when you get out after a couple of laps pleeease dont stain the seats ok???

Like I stated before, I'm sure many love dirt more than anything, but not me. I still remember the many Saturdays at Cherokee Speedway watching drivers throw their Chevy's, Ford's and Mopar's around the high banked clay oval, but I quickly grew very tired of the "Follow the Leader" racing and going to church the next day with undisscovered patches of red clay still visable. Cleaning my nose and ears for days to get rid of the my share of the ton of dust sent high into the air and abstructing my veiw of the other end of the track. Yes I remember. Then in 1973 I went to my first Cup race and I've been hooked ever since. Larger crowds, brighter colors, better racing and more excitement... at least to me. It cost more, but it was a cost I gladly paid for many years. I've been to many tracks and even worked on a Cup team for 3 years, and this only increased my appreciation of the sport and the spectical of Cup and Sportsman racing. Now I prefer to watch from the comfort of my recliner, but I still look forward to the start of a new race and see the teams do battle for supremacy at each event.I understand that dirt racing is where the sport I love started, but, to me, the differences between the two are very clear. Not that one is better than the other, it's more that one is more "Polished". Another big issue with me is I do not know the drivers and teams at the local and regional racing so I do not have any attachment to them. Sure I know Freddy Smith and Bloomquist, but thats about it. I can't get excited about the show when I don't know anything about the preformers. To all those dirt trackers out there, if this is your love, your passion, great. I can understand because the two types of racing were once nearly the same. Keep racing, keep supporting the type of racing that speaks to you. The tracks wouldn't be open for business if there wasn't enough fans to keep it going. Thanks for the comments and keep them coming.

I appreciate your efforts and I think everyone at RR have done a great job. This is, by far, the best site on the web for finding drivers, races and events from days gone by. Thank you for what you have done.

Now Emery, that goes both ways. Some say "Asphalt is for racing, dirt is for platin' TATERS".

It's funny you should mention this. I have heard Dad say he wants to add a Dirt RacersReunion as long as there is enough support.

Seems to be a lot of dirt track pictures out there, and sounds like there is a lot of people who would enjoy it. I hope he gives it a little thought. Either way, I love this site. I have to break away a few times during the day to check out the newest pictures.

I'm sorry to put more work on you. I didn't expect anything really to be done. I was just venting a little. But that will make it so much easier on me and I think those who really love dirt will be pleased to find their pictures in their own catagory. Thanks. Great site, I LOVE IT!!!!
