It is so easy to be critical of the NASCAR of today, I thought I'd open my eyes and try to put a positive spin on things. I have to admit I like the focus on safety that NASCAR is taking. This is a must and I think we all can agree on this. We've seen too many good people leave us too soon. Looking at the earlier days I don't know how more people didn't suffer the same fate. I think of Weatherly, Fireball, Tiny and so many that was NASCAR racing for many fans, that made them heros to so many. Hopefully in the future the NASCAR Hall of Fame will introduce the greats of OUR past to the younger fans. But it is still up to us to keep there memory alive by sharing the tales and stories with all you have an interest, and I think we can do a good job with this. The growth of NASCAR into more parts of the country is something that is good for the sport, even if it means we loose small markets and historical events. None of us are happy to see tracks like N. Wilkesboro and Rockingham go, but even I have to understand that other venues offer mare fans a chance to attend a race. More fans, more interest has to be good for the sport. The TV coverage is something I prayed for over the years and I'm very happy that all the races are avaliable each week. Sometime I still listen to MRN and it reminds me of the many, many races I witnessed in my mind. The radio still touches me and fills me with excitement when I'm out on the road and can't watch from my recliner. So I have to say thanks for all the coverage, and keep up the good work.Lastly, I have to say good things about the drivers. Bare with me on this. Todays driver have done so much for so many. Back when I was young, all they could do is sign an autograph and so thanks, but today they touch so many families and do a lot of good. Many have foundations in their names that reach out to organizations that support causes that touch most of us. The Victory Junction Camp is one of the most deserving organizations for there work with sick children. Being a Shriners child myself, I truely love those that reach out to others in need. We've all heard stories of what some drivers have done to help over the years and I pray that future drivers will take up the banners and continue to lend their names to such needy causes. If we take the time to look, there are good things out there. It's not all doom and gloom when it comes to NASCAR.
