Dale Earnhardt Sr and Kyle Busch, Which one has class?

I have read some comments on other sites concerning Childress being fined for beating up Kyle. Some are defending Kyle. Some and saying, "Well Kyle races just like Earnhardt." Absolutely not! The comparisons between Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt are like night and day.

First off lets start with their upbringings. Dale Earnhardt was never handed anything. He had to work for it. He spent years on his own racing small dirt and asphalt tracks in the South. Earnhardt's Father Ralph discouraged him from racing and never once gave him a chance. He had to race on his own. He himself made the sacrifices. He did not break into Grand National Racing till a much older age then Kyle.

Kyle Busch on the other with the support of his parents got to where he is now. Kyle was lucky to have the support of racing from the early age of 6 in go carts. Through racing legends, late models and knowing the right people he was able to make it. Watching that NASCAR show Driven you hear about how the parents made sacrifices to get their boys to race big time. Good for them. But Earnhardt had to work for it. He had no support of his parents. He did this on his own. He went broke doing it. He was not handed anything.

Lets look at their conduct on the track. Earnhardt when he first came on the scene was rough at first. But over time he groomed his skills and could master any track. He could win on short tracks, road courses and a master on super speedways. Sure he raced hard to win but he knew others would be coming for him. If he did not win he had class. Never whined or threw a tantrum. Always pressed on. Even the biggest races. He at times would just grin and say, "on to Richmond." What made Earnhardt so talented is he raced alot of cars that were not the best but he could race them well. I can remember one story where he raced a car and told Richard Childress, "this car is junk I never want to drive it again." So Richard Childress scrapped it for a while. Then without telling, brought it back to race at Bristol and Earnhardt won in it. Then after he won Childress told him the secret that it was the junker car. Earnhardt laughed but that shows how flexible he was with cars that did not run right. Then there was the race he won at Bristol with no power steering. He could adjust to situations and drive bad handling cars with grace. Perhaps alot of this talent had a lot to do with the fact that he spent years racing junk cars and that made him skilled to drive cars that were bad. When he had good cars he was appreciative to the crew. Never gave up on them or threw them under the bus. In addition Earnhardt was appreciative of the fans even if they were not the ones who cheered him. He would get booed but he would just continue to wave, smile and race on. He showed class to the fans in appearances and at the track. Did not taunt or mock them.

Kyle Busch's conduct is not as conservative as Dale's. Early in a race Kyle takes ridiculous chances. It was worse early in his career but he has not learned. He is not as patient as Earnhardt was. He always makes his moves early in the race and screws up. He is horrible on Super Speedways and his drafting ability cannot hold a candle to Earnhardt's abilities on a Super Speedway. Sure he can win on short tracks. He can win but its only because hes patient and keeps his nose clean. The ones he does not win its always someone else's fault. It was the crew or he comes up with some excuses. I think its because he has never raced enough junk cars to learn what its like to race junk cars so when his car is crap he gives up. Whines about it on the radio all race. Spends more time whining then racing. Even admits he whines and is a crybaby. This was a guy who won the first COT race and then still complained about the car. Lets not forget how he got so upset at Texas where he wrecked that he left the track and Dale Earnhardt Jr drove his car. Has Dale Earnhardt ever done that?

This is the big one. After a race when Kyle loses, he throws a tantrum, avoids media or hits the winner or someone on the cool down lap. Has Earnhardt ever done that? Well he did once give donuts on the side of Gordon's car congradulating him and he did give Mayfield the bird after he won. But with Kyle hes wrecked and deliberately hit Harvick, Edwards and others all on cool down laps. His tantrums over not winning a Nationwide Series Race or Truck race are laughable and annoying. Did Earnhardt ever whine about losing those? I cannot picture "The Intimadator" whining over losing an IROC race. This is the kind of conduct that sets him apart from Dale Earnhardt. He races with no grace or class at all. It is irritating to the fans, drivers and yes we can now say, car owners. The fans realize it and are annoyed by him. His conduct and arrogance gets on everyones nerves. The fact that he thinks he can race hard and think no one is justified to race him hard is the big one. It is ridiculous and hypocritical. I remember seeing one race where Ricky Rudd was getting into Earnhardt real bad at Bristol. The two went at it all race. But kept under control and did not whine to each others team to stop. In the end Earnhardt won. Rudd in good sportsmanship congratulated him. None of them got upset at each other. No cars were spun on pit road after the race or during the victory lap. But man if Kyle even gets bumped back in return for something, WHINE WHINE WHINE CRY CRY CRY! Then theres his conduct to the fans such as mocking them, taking a bow and acting pompous. He likes being the bad guy and likes to create himself as the bad guy. But it shows no class the way he acts to those who dislike him. Hes likes the Hollywood bad people who like getting in trouble for attention.

So we can conclude that Kyle does not race with class and probably never will. Sure the two race hard. About the only thing different between the two is Earnhardt races with class. Thats why to this day he goes down as one of the most respected. Even if you disliked him you had to admire how he raced with class every single time. Unlike Kyle. Earnhardt raced on his own and without much help. He truly worked his way in and learned the craft right. He maintained focus. Even later in his career he stayed so focused that he was able to finally win the Daytona 500. Kyle could do this. He could win big races and Championships but one thing is holding him back. Maturity. Kyle has not matured. Thats right DW you are wrong. Someone asked me when he could win a Championship and I said, "till he matures." Its tiring how immature Kyle is. I don't know what could have caused Childress to beat up Kyle but I suspect it could be something much more. Could it be something Kyle said about Earnhardt? I am sure that would be enough for Childress to lose it. I know I would, because lets face it Earnhardt had more class.

Christopher, it is actually difficult for me to mention Kyle Busch in the same paragraph as Dale Earnhardt, Sr. There is simply no comparison. As you so well pointed out, Kyle has no class, no proper upbringing, no manners, no appreciation for the sport, the fans, the sponsors, and certainly no maturity. I am getting very sick of all the folks applauding his great driving skills and while I admit he is a good racer most times, I am not about to call him great. As I have repeatedly stated, other drivers give him room for his "daring moves" which should be more commonly called foolish moves, and if it were not for the reflexes of the other drivers, Kyle would be wrecked out of many races. I have personally noted this twice from Jeff Gordon when either time would have caused a massive wreck had it not been for Jeff's actions. I would imagine it is a good thing Kyle is driving for Coach Gibbes because Coach is a praying man. Bet he is wearing out the knees of his pants praying for this kid. NASCAR claims it needs Kyle Busch. NASCAR needs plenty and I admit Kyle brings publicity all the time although not necessarily the best kind. But the NASCAR I grew up loving did not need such idiots behind the wheel. Thanks for taking the time to post your thoughts!Tim

Thanks. I am just getting sick and tired of everyone comparing his driving style to "The Intimadator's." You just can't. Man I can remember everyone used to hate Gordon or Stewart. But look what happened, they matured. They no longer have the biggest boos anymore. Reason is because they matured. I laugh that Kyle is a car owner. Yah. Like he really knows how to manage a team. HE CANNOT EVEN DISCIPLINE OR MANAGE HIMSELF!! Yeah, next time give him a toy, I meanexotic car to drive to dinner with, see what happens.
