I "Disliked" NASCAR on Facebook

I am so frustrated that I did not watch All Star Race. Do not get me wrong I like stock car racing. I like all forms of racing. But lately my interest in NASCAR Sprint Cup racing is just waning. I was honestly considering getting tickets for the Pepsi 400, I mean Coke Zero 400, Soda Pop 400? I don't know what is sponsoring this year's July race at Daytona. Anyways, I went to the NASCAR Facebook paged and have been so displeased with the NASCAR product as of lately that I did something I thought I would never do and it has come to this. I disliked it. I got reasons for it and here they are.

I have voiced my opinions and takes on things I dislike in hopes the NASCAR brass is really paying attention like Brian France says he is. Well lately the racing product has stunk in the past few months. The Richmond race with the fake yellow really upset me. The Talladega race was boring and I totally agreed with Tony Stewart in his post race interview. Smoke said it best about that race. So I really was not in the mood to watch a non points race that is just put on for the sake of just putting on a show rather then a real race. After hearing that it was a boring race and reading about it, I just finally said, this is it. This has been brewing all year and finally I just cracked. It has been years in the making.

Flashback to the late 90s. I never really was happy with the fact that North Wilkesboro was taken off the schedule. I can remember the many greats raced on that fast 5/8 mile short track. The picture of me in my profile here is of me next to the old girl when it was re-opened. I drove all the way from Florida to see this track return to glory. Something about that track just spoke volume. I felt close to the track. The racing was close and the track had its own character something that is lacking from oh such tracks as Kansas, California, Texas, Chicago and all these other boring cookie cutter tracks that now make up the schedule. I am tired of that.

2004, NASCAR introduces this thing called, "THE CHASE" a format that is like a playoff system.SupposedlyBrian France said fans wanted this. What fans? Ones from another planet?? This Chase had flaws and it had to be changed later to include 12 drivers and then a wild card spot. This is classic example of NASCAR thinking they got to fix something that was never broke to begin with. Another example was the result of the Bristol race this year. They changed the layout of Bristol. It was fine and now they are going to change it back. The COT was bad with the wing. They took it off and went back to the old spoiler. The old car was fine and what was bad with instituting the COT was it hurt the smaller teams because it costs them so much to switch over. I fail to see how this has helped the smaller teams because I still see the bigger teams dominating. The cars lack real identity and they all look like spec cars. No real character and all the cars look too identical.

I am not bitter about Johnson or Busch winning races. What I am annoy with is the racing product on the track. PERIOD. If a whole race is boring and comes down to fuel mileage is that what the fans pay to see? Guys racing to see runs out of gas? Or how about the Brickyard 400 that one year where tires were junk. Do we pay to see guys run in a line all day and not even race hard or with any real desire to win like there used to be? I am not even impressed with the quality of actual driving seen out there as of recently. Occasionally there is some great racing but when Kyle Busch is whining on the radio that he wants to pit because he is afraid to race Carl Edwards that is a new low. Really are our drivers these days that afraid now? Where is the gusto? I do not see too much of it anymore like the old days.

Do not even get me started with these fake yellows. Yes they said the Richmond race there was a water bottle on the track but common, the timing always seems to be at a convienint time. I do not see this kind of stuff in DIRT, ARCA, F1 or other sanctioning bodies. It is even been said that fake yellows are done to bunch the field up. Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne have voiced their disgust with this only to be fined for this. Which leads me to believe NASCAR allows this and wants to continue to do this. It stopped for a while and now I am seeing it come back. I am suspicious about these yellows coming out in the later stages of a race. It is becoming a common thing. It just seems fishy and just something about it makes me think it is some conspiracy. There is no doubt in my mind that the outcome of many races would be alot different if these yellows did not come out. Same thing with this thing that races never end under yellow. Could you imagine what would have happened had the 1998 Daytona 500 had not ended under yellow or went into over drive green white checkard? Dale Sr would have probably never won the Daytona 500. It is mind blowing to think how many races would have been altered if this rule never existed. Which brings me to the next topic.

These rules. Some are just flat out failures and the constant changing them is annoying. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I want to see some consistency too. If Kyle Busch spins out Ron Hornady and gets parked and fined for his actions how come Danica Patrick does the same and nothing? Why these secret fines? Why fine drivers for speaking out? Go after the real offenses. HOW ABOUT GOING AFTER PEOPLE THROWING STUFF ON THE TRACK THAT BRING OUT THESE YELLOWS!

I am frustrated. I know this just probably just an angry mindless rant but I am just finding myself watching other forms or racing now more then ever because I am just so disgusted with the NASCAR product and the things going on. I do love stock car racing though. I like the old days. I miss the old days when it was a "Race" and not a "Show." Some people on facebook said, "FINE LEAVE, GLAD YOU ARE LEAVING" I just laughed and thought how good my empty seat at Daytona is going to look. Because after all there are other forms of racing. The seat at my local short track or other form of racing will be occupied though.

Christopher, you very eloquently expressed the feelings of so many here. NASCAR lost all contact with the old time fan quite some time ago, mostly, I believe, because Brian Z. France came to power. I truly try to support the sport which has been so much a part of my life, but it is much more fun for me to support the heritage and history of the sport through this website. Things will never go back to where they were in the sport but with actions like you took on Facebook at least takes a stand. An interesting note about proof that NASCAR pays attention to this site. My e-mail address for folks to e-mail me about racing is legendtim83@yahoo.com I use that e-mail ONLY when talking with race fans and/or posting on RacersReunion. I have never used that address for anything official or to sign up for anything. However, AFTER my Legendtorial last week, I have started receiving the NASCAR offers and promo e-mails at the legendtim83 address. The ONLY place they could have gotten that was reading it off that Legendtorial which is posted on the home page.Keep up the great writing Christopher!

This has been frustration that has been brewing for a while now. There's many likes I have on Facebook and it sure takes alot for me to change my mind and click DISLIKE. Yes Patty it may be a bit immature or silly but the past few weeks I have been airing mygrievanceson there. Many have agreed with what I have been saying. Everyone seems to agree that the direction the sport has taken is just downright scary and unwatchable. And NASCAR thinks they are doing no wrong and thinking they are doing what is right but all along it is wrong. That is the most frustrating thing. Just out of frustration I dislked
