1988 Firecracker 400 - Elliott Edges Wilson

One of the closet finishes in Daytona history that never gets talked about....Bill started 38th and was almost 1 lap down around the half-way point. Bill was one of the slowest cars on the track by himself...the same with Rick Wilson. But when the two hooked up in a draft, they were unstoppable. On the last lap with Waltrip, Earnhardt and Phil Parsons in positions 3-5, Earnhardt made a move in the last turn for 3rd, and Parsons followed. Parsons managed to beat the two champions for third, while Elliott held off Rick Wilson from TN to win his first of two Daytona July Restrictor Plate races.
