There are some real interesting combos in this field assembled by Bobby. A few things that popped out at me looking at the results:
* 4th place went to Tiger Tom Pistone not in his #59 Ford, but in the #74 Turkey Minton Chevy.
* 5th place went to Paul Lewis not in his #1 Plymouth, but in the #2 JD Bracken Chevy that used to be driven by Bobby Allison.
* Bosco Lowe ran in a second car entered by Clyde Lynn carrying the number 21.
* David Pearson started 4th, but went out after 102 laps. Reason out listed as "Frame." Wonder what that was about.
* Bobby had Red Farmer in the field.
An interesting lineup in some unusual cars. The deal money was definitely being passed around.
tiger tom drove the same car at martinsville and ran well.
paul lewis drove the j.d. bracken chevelle in several races around this time. when allison left the holman moody team later in the year , he went back to driving the bracken chevelle and won a race at islip. n.y.
My buddy, Frank, my dad and I were fortunate to see the little lightweight JD Bracken/ Bobby Allison #2 Chevelle make its first ever appearance on June 15, 1966 at Beltsville, MD - the greatest race I have seen to date in over 47 years of attending races. We had driven up from Richmond. That was the night that the David Pearson / Cotton Owens Dodge droppedits drive shaft on the start/finish line when the green fell and Richard Petty's Plymouth blew up while increasing a commanding lead. Tiny Lund and James Hylton battled for the win side by side, with Tiny dirt tracking on the asphalt, on the outside of Hyltonto the win. The little small block, lightweight maroon and white Chevelle #2 driven by Bobby qualified 4th and ran well before it blew up. The car had been salvaged from a flood and bodywork had not been completed. The numbers were on the car in adhesive tape. The car quickly had success on the Northern tour and I feel blessed to have seen it the first time out. Tiny's win that night was the finest display of side by side racing I ever saw.

It's the front sports page of the Sunday, June 19, 1966 Cumberland, MD Times naming Lund four days after his Wednesday night Beltsville triumph as the favorite for that day's 200 lap ARCA debut dirt race at Cumberland Raceway in a field including 8-10 other NASCAR drivers. top six in that cumberland opener were tom pistone,iggy katona, neil castles, wendell scott, dick freeman, and buck baker. tiny lost an engine. 9 of 21 starters were running at the finish. the race was slowed by one caution flag and run at an average speed of 62.871 mph. attendance was listed at only 500. found the info on ultimateracinghistory.com.
