My first trip to Bristol Motor Speedway

Stock Car Racing History

that big chevy took home an 11th place finish. it was 68 laps down but that was the way racing was back then.

Indy Nationwide Crowd??

Current NASCAR

i was scratching my head trying to figure out how they could get sadler for jumping and not dillon. i saw the NASCAR machine at its worst in 2008 when local hero peyton sellers was stripped of a win at greenville on a non-advantage rules infraction so dillon could score his first NASCAR win in an east series race. yeah, it made a lot more news for the childress grandson to win than sellers. looks like the scam is still on.

there you go. i'm sure the drivers and teams would complain, but it seems the fans don't care about them anymore so let them move aside and let's get some folks who want to put on a race and not an exibition.

the real thing that would invigorate the fan base would be time trial earlier in the day, take the top ten times and then let everyone else run two 20-lap heats to determine the rest of the field. i'd bust my rear to get to martinsville to see that.

Ned Jarrett

Stock Car Racing History

one of the coolest things that i have witnessed in the last ten years wason sunday september 14,2003 when timothy peters won an early afternoon late model race at orange county, n.c. speedway and then finished fourth later in the afternoon in a similar race at south boston. orange county runnerup peyton sellers also made the trip north and started in the rear of the sobo field with peters. i remember that there were 20 cars at sobo as i helped larry smith announce the race for WMVA radio out of martinsville. unfortunately i can't remember where sellers finished or even who won the race. the peters performance was the only time i can remember a driver doing that well at two different tracks on the same day. and yes, this is a very cool thread !

Johnny Rutherford-Smokey Yunick

Stock Car Racing History

ok, pk. i got it. the previous car on tour with jimmy was a rex white replica. i don't follow that stuff and was wondering, was it also a 1963 model ?

Johnny Rutherford-Smokey Yunick

Stock Car Racing History

pk sometimes i'm dumb as dirt and this is one of those times. please explain the irony of rex white finishing second to rutherford.

asfor rutherford's injuries in the 1964indy 500, he was injured far worse in a sprint car wreck at eldora in 1966 and didn't race for over a year.

1st NASCAR All-Star Race??

Stock Car Racing History

The ACC died after the 1963 event when only seven cars answered the call. The event also never drew well from the attendance side.
