I hope they've tested this thing a bunch. If it breaks down pacing a NASCAR field, Ford will look like a chump.

Electric pace car to be used at NASCAR race in Richmond

DEARBORN, Mich. Ford Motor Co. will become the first manufacturer in NASCAR history to supply an all-electric car as the pace car.

The new Focus Electric will lead the field at the April 28 Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway.

Mark Fields of Ford says research shows many Americans would consider an electric car if they understood the technology. Using the Focus Electric as pace car gives Ford a chance to educate consumers about the vehicle.

The car will be unveiled to the public at the Virginia State Capitol on April 25.

Ford also was the first to use a hybrid vehicle as pace car when the Fusion Hybrid led the field at Homestead in 2008. Ford in January unveiled its Fusion as its 2013 car to be used in NASCAR competition.

Guess they had better keep a "CHARGER" close by.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Insiders tell me Ford and NASCAR have a contingency plan in case the battery-operated car malfunctions.

I hope it works better than when I was forced to use the first set of radial tires on the pace car that ended with a torn up Pontiac Lemans II and a then governor Jimmy Carter as well as myself and Enoch Staley in cardiac arrest. The right front blew just as we got the one lap to go and nose dived into the wall at the start finish line with the pack closing on us fast.Very glad none of the competitors weren't hung over that day.
