In my post about the January 17, 1965 Grand National race at Riverside, Sandeep Banerjee brought up the name of Dick Wallen, the gentleman who was a superb motion picture photographer of auto races, primarily in the 1960s and 1970s.

For those of you who have never seen full bodied 1960s stock cars on dirt, here's a brief compilation of Dick Wallen shots that includes NASCAR Grand National and USAC stock car footage and perhaps some IMCA as well. Enjoy!

In the final seconds of the clip, you'll see Bobby Isaac in the Junior Johnson #26 Holly Farms Ford and David Pearson in the #6 Cotton Owens Dodge, and Wendell Scott in hios #34 Ford, while the clips close with The King - Richard Petty - losing it on the dirt. That's a rare sequence indeed! Step forward and identify the series and tracks if you know.

Dave, Don't know the USAC track but at the end with the GN cars my guess would be Hickory.

I'm thinking it could also be Richmond's 1966 Capital City 300. I believe that's David Pearson in the Cotton Owens Dodge #6 on the outside of Neil Castles in the Buck Baker-owned #88 1966 Chevy and Wendell Scott Ford #34. Richard left that September Richmond race with differential problems on lap 225. Just a guess, though.
