Early last week Sue Brown and her 10 year old son,Howell, were having some issues with the transmission on their vehicle and it was recommended that they take it to Jakes Transmission in Durham which is coowned by HSG President Frank Craig.Howell, who is a racing and NASCAR fan,had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is currently undergoing treatment for the tumor. It didn't take long for Howell and Frank to get into some serious racing talk and at the end of the day arrangements had been made for Howell to come to Occoneechee Speedway

and he would be take for a ride in a real race car. Thanks to HSG member Gerald Talbert who volenteered the use of his race car the plan was set.

On Saturday December 21st around 12:30 Howell and his mother Sue arrived at the track.Several HSG members were there and we got to meet Howell and Sue for the first time.It was a really exciting time especially for Howell who made several laps around the track and then was given a bag of racing goodies. It was Christmas event that I don't think Howell will ever forget -I know we won't.A lot of the story can be seen in the photos-also look in the photo section of RR. I will post some there

By the way Howell has been invited to our event in September next year so everyone can meet him.He is a wonderful young man.

This is as nice a Christmas story as can be told. "Christmas is for children" someone once said but I think it is more like we all become as children on that special day and all during that special season. What you guys at The Historic Speedway Group pulled off for this kid is very, very special. But then we all know that all you folks involved with that organization are very special folks. I really look forward to meeting Howell next September!

Thanks, Laverne, for sharing this story and the pictures with all of us. It gives special meaning to "Merry Christmas".

God bless us, everyone.

Tim

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Thanks to all the Occonneechee group for doing this, They always do a first class job regardless of what they are involved in. I am sure Howell will never forget this treatment by a great group of people.
