Crowd at Indy

Just a question, Did anyone hear and understand what the commentators said about the size of the crowd at Indy? I heard him say something like, "No need to avoid it any longer, yes the attendence is down for this race and there are several reasons for this, we won't say anymore about that, but we will consentrate on calling the race today." What was he talking about???

Was it because:

1) The economy?

2) The cost of the tickets?

3) Fords haven't won in 2010?

4) Jr sucks?

5) The Brad/Carl rulings and fine?

6) The race typically stinks?

7) Waiting on the chase to start?

Any of the above... all of the above?

Just wondering how everyone feels about this.

B.T., I gave my thoughts on this on the other discussion - but I will say that of the reasons you listed, the economy probably has a little to do with it..........but not as much as several other reasons. The cost of the tickets has something to do with it - as I said on the other discussion, big money has taken control of NASCAR racing, and one of the results is that they have priced many fans out of the race tracks. You touched on one of the other reasons............the race typically stinks. After running the Brickyard 400 18-19 years, I'm still trying to figure out why NASCAR is still trying to sell everyone on this being one of the 2 major races of the season. In my opinion, it's not. There are many tracks which are way more enjoyable to watch a race on than this one.

It's all of the above and none of the above. NASCAR has RUNN-OFT their traditional fan. And those fans, if they still are interested in racing, have found other venues. Indy's attendence was an illustration of this phenomenon. Them same stands were just about full for some of the earlier Brickyard races.

The attendance was sooooo low that saying anything would be like rubbing salt in a wound. Maybe, they sould move the race to a later date in the season. Then,if that doesn't help, they won't be able to use the hot weather as an excuse.

Thanks for your comments. I wish I knew just what the commentators were talking about. My view is the cost of the tickets would be the top reason, followed by the race stinks, Jr sucks, Brad/Carl and no Ford wins and finally the heat.

What I also think is wrong1 Don't see any car like I drive in the National Assc. of Stock Car Racing .2 The chase ain't that important if you pull for the drivers not in the chase.3Ticket prices too high for a formerly family sport.4 Brand loyality gone ( see #1 )5 Drivers have the big head6 It's all about money not racing.

All of the above.... and it typically is the worst race of the year, along with Homestead, New Hampshire and Auto Club Speedway.
