Old days vs today

General

In the pictures posted by others and myself there is a lot of difference in the 60's and today . Not only in the cars but the tracks. Wish Augusta International Speedway drag strip was still around 40 yrs after it closed to see what it would be today. Jackson Drag strip (Carolina Dragway) is a prime example

Looking for former racers and cars

Drag Racing History

Augusta International Speedway and Sports Center had the only Drag Strip in Augusta GA . The Augusta track opened 50 yrs ago and closed 40 yrs ago. Jackson Drag Strip now known as Carolina Dragway is still running. Sean Bush said:
I'm confused, Harvey. The first post here says that Augusta International Speedways Drag Strip is celebrating the 50th anniversary, but you said in your reply to my post, that you had the only drag strip in Augusta and it was named Jackson Drag Strip, across the river. I assume you mean North Augusta? Please set me straight.

Thanks for the reply.

Sean Bush.

I have a Question thats haunting me on this weekeds racing

General

Nascar also reguates engines to keep the speed down . Who cares if the go 200 or 250 if it's not a good race . Back in the 60's they ran under 200 and still put on a good show. Nowdays you are lucky to see both cars make it down the strip .

Hello is anybody there

General

Roger a friend of mine took lots of pictures so as he digs them out I post them for others to enjoy. My friend ,Joe Cawley, mainly does vintage cars now. I posted some from Pelion today. Jackson is still operating and is called Carolina Dragway check out their web site. Roger Backman said:
I'm here Harvey. I grew up in the midlands of SC. The first thing I do when I log on to RR is check your album for new pics. I specially like the Pelion (Palmetto Raceway) and Jackson photos as I spent a lot of time there in the 60's & 70's. Did you ever get to Blaney? I'm trying to get some photos from someone who used to take a lot there and Jackson. I'll post them if I'm sucessful.
