Kurt Busch suspended by NASCAR following domestic abuse allegations

By Jordan Bianchi

Kurt Busch will not race in Sundays Daytona 500.

Kurt Busch is indefinitely suspended by NASCAR and will not be permitted to compete in Sunday's Daytona 500, the sport's marquee race.

Stewart-Haas Racing named Regan Smith to drive Busch's No. 41 in Sunday's race.

The suspension follows allegations Busch physically assaulted his former girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, who was issued an order of protection by a Delaware Family Court Monday. In issuing an order of protection, Commissioner David Jones determined evidence showed Busch grabbed Patricia Driscoll by the throat "manually strangling her" while placing his other hand on her hand and face and smashing her head against a wall.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in Busch's motor home Sept. 26 at Dover International Speedway. A criminal investigation is ongoing, with the Attorney General's office determining whether to file charges against Busch.

Busch has maintained innocence through the proceedings. His attorneys have attempted to portray Driscoll as a vengeful ex-girlfriend set on ruining Busch's career.

Citing new evidence Busch's attorney, Rusty Hardin, filed a motion to re-open the protection order case Thursday. Hardin contends Driscoll perjured herself during testimony and tampered with witnesses.

I think his time in NASCAR is over. Time to move to Indy car......Great driving talent, bad temper.

The prevailing social/political winds will likely keep him from racing in any major circuit. Not only has NASCAR banned Kurt "indefinitely" but Chevrolet has too.

The buzz here in Daytona is like W O W .

If you get in a fuss better do it so the cameras can see you. If you do it behind closed doors where the cameras dont see you then the talking heads can build a case that was never seen but everybody heard. Bottom line is his past may indeed muddy his future. Its a shame that a person with this much talent can be led up to a point then he goes haywire and wants to cross the line just enough to get entangled in a web of no return.

If by chance he is not convicted can all this be erased from his little book?

Key word is allegations. But NASCAR felt it had to react faster then the NFL in such a manner like this. When a driver does something wrong and represents NASCAR as a whole along with millions of dollars worth of sponsors this was the action the sanctioning body and Chevy felt was necessary and it does not help that Kurt Busch has had a rocky past. It does not look good for Busch though considering his past and issues with his temper and other off track issues.

Seems sadly ironic that Patricia Driscoll's DC office is located just a block and a half from "The Spirit of Justice Park" . I've never been a Busch fan, but I'm not at all convinced justice has been served by NASCAR's ruling.
