What's Old is New Again

Saw a news release from Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, NC that they were now paying drivers in CASH. I'm guessing either some checks bounced or they were very late in paying off and drivers had threatened to race elsewhere.

What's old is new again.

Cash Payouts Beginning Saturday at Southern National

Apr 10, 2015

Southern National Motorsports Park will begin paying drivers in cash the night of the race beginning with Saturday nights Spring BreakOut. Instead of waiting for a check to arrive, drivers and team owners will be able to get paid in cash at the end of the race.

Its just another way to give back to the racers and get back to grassroots short track racing, said track promoter Langley Austin. I dont like waiting for a check. I dont think anyone else does either and we want to give the racers what they want. This season is all about getting Southern National back to being the drivers favorite place to come.

Paying in cash the night of the race is just the latest in a series of offseason changes leading up to Saturday nights Spring BreakOut, which will be the opening race for the 20th season of racing at Southern National Motorsports Park. The offseason changes have all been made to improve the racing quality on the track while also giving back to the drivers who support the venue.

Weve given racers every reason in the world to come here. A strong payout, bonuses, friendly staff, good food and much more to ensure that the racers feel welcome and want to race with us.

"I don't like waiting for a check" What IN THE WORLD is that all about???? Were drivers actually racing and then LEAVING the facility with the expectation of a "check in the mail" ? OMG.

Kudos to Langley and his team. One of the most hipocritical things about short track racing over the last decade plus has been the one-sided revenue stream. Many tracks now require the racers to pay for their pit entry, tire bill, and fuel bill with either cash or credit card....don't even think about asking THEM to take a check, yet they then tell the racer that they will receive that nights purse via the US Mail, they will receive it in 2-3 weeks....and you guessed it.....it will be a check.
