Hunt for Riverside photos

Hi there folks! First let me explain what I do as a hobby. Starting last year I began building virtual tracks for for a PC racing simulator called Assetto Corsa. My first project was Bridgehampton Race Circuit. With use of an original 5' topo map I was able to recreate the original circuit to a fairly high level of accuracy.

Here is a video of me driving a classic Lotus 72D around the Bridge

So now I am mid way through my second project which is he great Riverside International Raceway. Since January I have been rebuilding the circuit piece by piece and have gotten what many actually RIR drivers say is an almost perfect recreation of RIR. But now it is time to really take it to the next level and I'm looking for possible photos of details of the infield such as the snack shacks, bathrooms, paddock area, and such. I know this is tough as most people take photos of cars when at the race track and not the bathrooms.

Here are some "photos" of the current build of RIR for Assetto Corsa. I am trying to capture the overall look of the track as of the final 1988 Budweiser 400.

And here is a video of it in motion. It is of the GP layout but all 3 major layouts can be used. Also don't mind the modern GT3 cars.

Any help on this would be appreciated. I want the current generation of sim racers to witness these great tracks in all their former glory. All my tracks are free to download with the option to donate.

Thank You!

-Kevin

Hi Kevin, this is absolutely fantastic !!! What a super talent you have !!Can't wait for some of our friends to see these videos. I always thought it was amazing when some one would bring me a model car they had made of my racecars, also have some Die Cast cars some folks would bring to me. Wouldn't change any of them for money, even though I have been offered quite a bit for them. My family has already viewedyourtrack collections!! Wish I had something to help because I never got to these tracks you are making. Only saw them on TV, as the tracks I competed on was Daytona and Charlotte, as well as many dirt local tracks within the East Coast area. Thanks so much for your contribution through Racers Reunion Members.

God bless and we love you and yours,

Billy and Barbara Scott

You see that's a big help. Not only did you separate them by year but you were also there during practice sessions and qualifying. In those sessions you seem to be all over the place which is awesome as you picked up on stuff I have never seen before. I had a bunch of your shots already that I found around the web but never actually went to the webpage that is in each picture...Stupid I know...

By the way I picked 1988 not only because it was the last year but also because the look of RIR changed a lot each year depending on rain and also when an off road event was. In many shots the esses is freshly graded to level it out and zero grass. But in some it looks untouched with grass everywhere.

I'm super jealous you got to see so many races there in person. Seems like you can just about see the whole track from where you were sitting in the T6 grandstands. I've watched every full RIR race that is on youtube and it is some of the best road course racing I have ever watched. Is great to watch Dale Sr. again. It is just a shame he never got a win before it was destroyed.

Sooo something like this? Don't mind the creepy people looking at you. It's a limitation of the game. I know the road closed things were never there but I needed something to physically block the other routes and I didn't want an invisible wall.

Also thanks for the link to the facebook page. Can't believe I missed all this stuff!

Back in 1981, our Wrangler Jeans sponsorship produced a promo TV special about Dale Earnhardt. I don't think there'd be much, if anything, here to help you, but there is about 3 minutes of Riverside footage shot at the 1981 June Riverside race beginning around the 9:47 mark. You can take a look.

Not very useful for RIR footage but very cool to watch! I love how he talks about the future and how uncertain it is and how he hopes to continue to perform in the years to come. Thank you for that video!

I ran across this one today, it is a fairly early shot. Notice no oval in turn 9, no 7B & no track support structures have been constructed as of yet.
