Did anyone else see the altercation at Dover today between Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick? Did anyone see how fast John Darby with NASCAR was there with Denny? He was there to stop the fight, so they say. Wonder if either of these drivers will get "spoken to" or put on probation for Sunday's race? I would bet a least one of them is very immune to any such action.
Not meaning to be negative here, but I cannot understand, for the life of me, what it is about Joe Gibbs Racing. When I worked for the attorney who represented many NFL players and then coaches, I had more than one occassion to be in the presence of Coach Gibbes and more than one occassion to speak with him one-on-one. He is an honorable man, and deeply religous Christain and an all around worker for good. Yet, he as a punk driving the 18, a high-school drop-out big mouth with a mafia father driving the 20, and a youngster who did work his way up the ladder the right way but now has that certain attitude that he is owed more respect than he has earned. For Hamlin to pop off his mouth about Richard Childress the way he did indicates a total lack of respect for the sport, as Richard Childress is one of those gentleman who helped make it possible for Mr. Hamlin to graduate from the dirt tracks to where he is today in the million dollar house and the half million dollar motorhome. It's a nice story about how his folks mortgaged their home and gave up everything to get him to the top, but without Richard Childress and the CRC Chemicals number 3 Chevy from all those years ago, Denny would be racing a donkey cart around a dirt track about an eighth of a mile long.
I am more than sick and tired of these young punks with their slick hair styles and even slicker attitudes, bashing the roots of the sport. I have no respect for a young punk bashing an icon like Richard Childress. While I am not a fan of Kevin Harvick either, what I saw in practice was a young punk trying to show out in front of Kevin and Kevin just showed him you don't run your mouth about my boss and then get in my way here.
I tell you, for someone who tries so hard to stay positive, I am having my moments with all that's going on here. Maybe it is time for me to be quiet, stay away for awhile, and eat birthday cake. What I was told two weeks ago, reiterated by NASCAR's actions with Clint, is enough to make me really sick. Where will it end? Who knows. I do know this; I will not be watching tomorrow's race, I'll be at my grandsons' soccer games. I will probably watch Talladega and Charlotte because those are"old school" tracks. But, I can assure you, even if I have to schedule a root canal, I will NOT watch the event from Homestead. To do so would allude to an allegience I no longer feel. I can fake many things, but I can't fake my way through this distaste I am experiencing right now. Forgive me for being negative, please. That is not my nature.Maybe I can fake my way into politics. It has been known to work for some people.
