What'd They Pay that Bristol Scoreboard Guy?

It wasn't long ago that most tracks still had someone on a catwalk who manually changed the numbers on the track scoreboard. Wonder what they paid this guy at Bristol in 1963 as he has Fireball Roberts get up close and personal while Major Melton keeps on trucking?

Looks like Golden Boy and King were running 1-2 in this 1963 Bristol shot by an unidentified photog posted on the H.A.M.B. racing board.

Dave, I wonder if it was the same guy who also changed the numbers at Martinsville and North Wilkesboro? That was the only way to keep up with the lap count in our younger days. I remember those boards well.

Looks cool as a cucumber in that pic doesn't he? Only thing that would have made it better is if he had been burning a smoke and sipping a Falls City.

The one at the Richmond fairgrounds was sponsored by Hechler Chevrolet.

I posted this photo last year and wondered the same thing. Great shot. Looking in the window Fireball looks cool as can be. My elbows and hands would be going everywhere.
