I have learned from a reliable source that the bank turned down the winning bid for Southern National Speedway. It is a no sale as of this time. Hopefully a sale can be negotiated soon so racing can resume in the spring.

I can't say that I blame Heritage Bank considering what I've read about the winninhg bidder and their ride along schools.

Tommy, thanks for the update. Honestly, I didn't think the bank would accept that offer...seems a 900K offer was also declined at their previous auction. The bank is in it for somewhere in the million-dollar-neighborhood.

I hear they are trying to negotiate a deal, maybe with more than one party. they can place all the tax value on the place they want, but the reality is,it is still a race track in the middle of farm country.I think 800-900k just might get it done, but who knows other than the bank folks. There is quite a bit of work to be done to get it race ready.I think the entertainment license is no longer valid since no race was run last year.I think that will have to be re-applied for by new owners. I heard all of the radio equipment, tech shed tools, and numerous other things are all gone. There were some problems with the sewer system when it was open before, not sure if all that has been resolved. I would think these things along with the struggling economy and current picture of short track racing in general have all contributed to devaluation of SNRP. I sure would like to see someone capable of running it gets their hands on it. Bring back the super late models and maybe have an occasional vintage race. It really is a great place to spend a Saturday night.
