I never meet Dan Wheldon. Probably never would have as I don't follow Indy Car Racing. But, Dan Wheldon was one of us because if you're reading this you're on a site that epitomized a fan's dedication to a sport. I have always held the belief that race fans make up a family, whether stock, Indy, drag, or whatever. Today, a member of our family was killed on a race track. Just as the racing family worldwide mourned our losing of Dale Earnhardt in 2001, we all now join the Indy Car family in prayers and condolences to the Wheldon Family. We have lost someone who should not have left us at such a young age with some much promise ahead. We will miss him, we will honor him, but, above all else, we must not forget him and the contribution he made to the world of motorsports. May his death have not been in vain as a solution for the type racing which caused it be found.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I was watching the race and commented on how fast the cars were going, my son and I were just discussing how there is little room for error when the wreck happened, terrible thing.

We watched Dan win the 500 in that memorable turn 4 wreck by the rookie that left Dan clear sailing to the bricks. I was an Indy fan long before I followed NASCAR, there is something special about Indy drivers that you won't find anywhere else, they ride that fine line every time they strap in, I've always had the utmost respect and admiration for them. RIP Dan Wheldon

I never really was much of an IRL fan but I would occasionally tune in here and there. I watch the 500 every year on TV and this year went to St Pete to see an IRL race. What is so sad was he was starting a family. His career was really really taking off. He was not even a full time driver this year and he wins the Indy 500. While in victory lane at Indy he dedicates his win to his Mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. So young too. Just an incredible driver.
