Ann and I just stood in our front yard at 6:20 a.m. to watch the International Space Station streak across the beautiful early morning South Carolina sky. As I came back into the house I started to think that tonight starts the Third Annual Love Chevrolet Columbia Speedway Racers Reunion. So, in a period of 90 seconds I went from the twenty-first century back to the days of the 50s and 60s when my Thursday nights consisted of trips across town to The Columbia Speedway (which did not include "Historic" in those days) to watch the rising stars of major league stock car racing compete in the dust of that hallowed piece of ground.
My thoughts went to the incredible events that have taken place in my lifetime! Froma post world war planet where space travel was only in the minds of science fiction writers to a world where you can stand in your front yard and watch a manmade space station streak across the sky in beautiful brillance that says, overall, the world is a wonderful place, in spite of so many negative things that occupy headlines and television talking heads. This weekend, those of us attending the Love Chevrolet Columbia Speedway Racers Reunion will have the opportunity to relive the simple days of stock car racing with heroes who made it happen. The stories are great, entertaining, and 99 and 44/100% true, for the most part. You do have to be a little wary of those told by Lil Bud Moore though because he likes to play with your head! All in fun, I might add.
If you missed the International Space Station pass overhead this morning, you missed an awesome sight. You still have the opportunity to experience an encounter with the Stars of stock car racing. Hope to see you at The Historic Columbia Speedway, 2001 Charleston Highway, Cayce, SC. Check the events calendar here on the main page for all the activities, which start tonight and continue through Saturday night. Oh, and if you're worried about the weather forecast for rain, don't fret, the festival goes forward regardless, although I believe the weather will not be a washout by any means. Lol, imagine that; The Legend predicting weather! But the tent is big and dry and, besides, we have rain tires.
See you all this weekend!!!!
Tim
