Changes to races ending under cautionFebruary 10, 2010NASCAR Changing Green White Checkered RuleNASCAR changing green white checkered ruleLook for another procedural rule change from NASCAR before Thursdays Gatorade Duels. I have heard from a source inside NASCAR that the race leader will now be required to take the white flag under green. If a caution occurs before the leader reaches the white flag NASCAR will make another attempt at a Green White Checkered finish. No word yet on how many additional attempts will be made. Currently only one attempt is made. I expect an official announcement shortly.Do you see this as an improvement in racing?

Well, I am for ending the races under green...liked it when they came up with the gwc rule. I've only seen ...maybe a couple of times when/where this new rule would have made any difference at all....but them again, I've slept through quite a few of em over the past few years.Answer...I'm not sure if it helps.

Saw Jeff's reply......ditto on sleeping through a few of them in recent years. I have not heard about possible rule change, but I am for requiring leader to take white flag under green w/unlimited attempts. I didn't like the way the Shootout ended last weekend..........think that should have been a GWC. I also don't think they should count caution laps in special races like the Shootout..........I guess that would really only apply during 2 races during the year......the Shootout & the All-Star Race.

Even with the green-white-checkers the races still end once the white flag comes out because of a spin. I'm not sure a second chance would help since cautions bred cautions. I agree with Jeff that we all want to see races end with a good checkered flag finish. How 'bout not counting the yellow flag laps with 10 to go and letting them race to the checkers if a caution comes out on the white flag lap?? It would be exciting!Pete

now that would put new spice in to the last ten especially if gas is an issue because the crewchiefs calculate it to a tee and last ten would be a no play replay Pete Banchoff said:

I like that..........not counting caution laps during the last 10 & racing to the checker on the last lap..........I have to agree that would put a lot more excitement into races and particularly the end of races. I would like to see NASCAR do that. Pete Banchoff said:
