Sprint Unlimited

Did anyone have the same impression of the Sprint Unlimited that I did?In my opinion, NASCAR - in its infinite wisdom - has takena decent race and tried to turn it into a another "professional wrestling" type show. What is the purpose of "segmenting" a race........or allowing fans to vote on starting positions and whether or not to eliminate a driver from the race? The "Allstar" race (in Charlotte)is a "show" (ala P.T. Barnum) - the Bud Shootout was a race. I don't know who at NASCAR comes up with these brainstorms, but as I've always said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I do think the glitz and glitter of the contrived race was less than spectacular, but I was impressed by the actual racing. I saw passing. I saw cars being able to move up without the assistance of another car. But,. as someone said a few years ago, racing has gone into the entertainment business rather than racing.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

I agree that this new car seems to race a little better than the COT -we shouldsee better racing in the 500 than we've seen in recent years.......and I suppose you're right about NASCAR transforming into the entertainment business from the racing business - a sad thing for race fans, but it's all about the money these days. I still believe they took a good race (Bud Shootout) andgimmicked it into something resembling a side show. As I said before, they have that Allstar thing in Charlotte which should provide all the game show entertainment anyone would ever want to see on a race track.

NASCAR's apparently convinced the inside track to the modern fan involves social media, fan interactionand electronic gizmos.......and throw in the fact that Sprint is promoting the same idea.........

As I've said, I do NOT have a Sprint phone. I did, however, use STP in anything that moved back in the day. I still use Maxwell House Coffee because they were involved in the sport for awhile and I got accustomed to that brand. Back in the day, any product that supported racing, that I needed or used, is what I bought. The product supported my sport, so I supported the product. That loyalty sort of went away when NASCAR broke from tradition and started all the gimmicks in use today. I enjoyed the RACING Saturday night, but not the contrived, voted upon, stupidity of breaking up what could have been a very competitive event. Can you imagine if the fans had voted to remove say the last six cars? Would Dale, Jr. still have been in there? What about a no tire change pit stop? Again, common sense seems to have given away to the marketing gurus who continue to chase after a market of fans about as loyal as........ Well, I can't think of anything with less loyalty than the party fans advertising seems to be seeking out. Oh well, just my opinoin.
