A Spot for The Legend to Hang His Hat?

I know our good friend Tim Leeming - THE LEGEND - makes numerous trips north every year from Columbia to Charlotte and the Mooresville area for all sorts of racing events and charity racing functions. It is a tiring round trip when you've been going since before dawn and leaving to go back late at night, sometimes in inclement weather.

It has come to my attention today that a property on Lake Norman has come on the market that Legend might consider purchasing as a spot to hang his hat and rest on these various trips rather than having to scoot back home. This property even carries a surprise bonus by having an original owner that Legend will recognize. What do you good folks think?

NASCAR drivers Lake Norman estate for sale for $4.9 million

NASCAR driver David Gilliland is selling his 66-acre Lake Norman estate in Sherrills Ford for $4.9 million, Lake Norman Realty President Abigail Jennings said Tuesday.

Formerly owned by NASCARs Michael Waltrip, the estate includes equestrian facilities, two race shops, an indoor basketball-racquetball court, a helicopter pad, a wine cave and ponds stocked with bass and catfish.

Dave, Ihave two points to add to your report One is how can A new driver that has never won a cup race as far as I know, Afford a 66 acre 4.9 Million dollar Lake Norman Estate? David is not a bad driver and from what I hear he is a nice guy but his ave. finish is same as his stating position, 28th....Its a good thing David was the most recent listed owner as I can assure you Legend wouldn't have it IF Waltrip is on the deed......Second point, IF you decide to chip in so the Legend can buy this spread you can count on me for at least $11.75......lol

Bill, when I read this news brief in this morning's paper I immediately pointed out to my wife that racing sure pays more than it used to... especially to the back markers.

Legend may not even be a connoisseur of the grape and have no need for a wine cave, in which case I have seen our RR members Patrick Reynolds and Shan Coughlin frequently converse on the subject of the fruit of the vine. With Patrick already located in the vicinity, perhaps he would have in interest in such a place sporting a "wine cave."

I did a quick calculation based on your generous offer and if we can come up with 391,489 more individuals willing to make a contribution of $11.75 each, we could close the deal!

I'd be glad to kick in some sweat equity. Well, sweat equity commensurate to whatever sweat I could work up by lounging in the heat amidst Tim's soon-to-own 66 acres.

Good eye Dave, Yes they are goats. They are used much like the Grand Canyon pack mules. Each goat carries a case of Schaefer's on each side between the main house and the hammock pit where our esteemed sweat equity supervisor spends most of his day.....lol

I think that is far out of my price range. Bill, I appreciate the offer of the $11.75. I'm sure there is no one else who would be willing to contribute. But thanks for the thought Dave!!!

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

C'mon Tim...What's the REAL reason you don't want the property? Since you're loaded, could it be that DW once owned the property? LOL
