Phoenix Still Lacking

Just auditing a little of the Phoenix Nationwide race and one thing stands out. For all the ballyhoo about the millions spent reconfiguring and rebanking the desert mile, the front stretch still looks extraordinarily NARROW in my opinion. I am disappointed. In this day and age we don't need the front stretch blocked so easily as it still can be at the "new" Phoenix.

Back in the late 60's I attended several Indy car races at Phoenix while Iwas stationed there in the Air Force.

All the great open wheel racers, the Unsers,Foyt,Swede Savage,Andetti, the Bettenhausensand others raced

there. And I saw some great races .Thats what Phoenix was about. They raced sports cars, they even raced sprint cars there. And although there have been some memorable races there in stock cars it is one of those tracks

that never impressed me as far as NASCAR stock cars goes.I know many improvements have been made over the years but it's like an old house that youkeep putting new siding on-when you pull back the siding it's still an old house

the race actually improved as more rubber was put down. i liked it much better than the old phoenix. let's give the new configuration a chance.

Laverne, sounds like you may have been to some of the Copper World Classics when they had several days of all sorts of racing. I have seen spurts of good stock car racing at Phoenix, but more so in Winston West races I attended. I did always enjoy the racing through 3-4, but that narrow font straight puzzles me.
