We have had so many inquiries about knowing Paul Ghost, and would like to share an answerto one of those inquiries with others. Others who knew Paul may want to add to this as the young man the comment is to, is family of Pauls.Hi Warren, and thanks for your inquiry. Yes we did run on the same tracks as Paul and knew him real well. As you will notice I said run on the tracks as he did, not too many of the drivers could say we run with him!! He was an outstanding race car driver!!! We will never forget quite a few times he would be late getting to the race at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. He always had some one there to draw for starting position. He would unload outside the infield gate and as the parade lap was being made by the other cars, he would pull inside the gate, onto the track into his starting position. There was never too many, if any, bets lodged against Paul as everyone felt the same about the position he would finish, we believe they called it the "winner" . Bets were only made for second place, etc. He would finish the heat race and possibly clean the windshield and mud from the grill, but that was it!! Everyone used to kid him, telling him if he should ever need a tool, he could borrow one from them. We do remember many people talking about the few tools he ever brought to the track. Ralph Earnhardt was the only other one we can remember, finishing the heat race and getting upon top of his truck until the main event. Seems all the rest of us would work on our cars until the main began. There may be a few newspaper articles about Paul, or at least his name, listed in our scrapbooks. Will check that out when we get home. He may also be seen briefly in an old video we have. Do note we said a glimpse because he was never slow enough to get a lot of footage. There were three of those guys who came from TN. who were fierce competition and could stay closer to Paul. One of them was Jim Hunter of Sweetwater, Tn., and the other we can't think of the name right now but believe it was Bill somebody. Thanks for contacting us Warren and stay in touch. You really do have bragging rights when it comes to your family tree with Paul (Ghost) as a member.
