Occoneechee and later called Orange County Speedway, Hillsborough, N.C., one of only three historical sites for racing in America is threatened with development in the name of progress. Read this story in the Raleigh News and Observer to get the whole story. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local_state/story/256295.html?mi_pluck_action=comment_submitted&qwxq=9068#Comments_Container Friends, this threatens not only Occoneechee but also threatens what we are doing; preserving stock car racing history, educating the public, and creating a family friendly environment for generations to enjoy and follow. If our friends at the Occoneechee Historical Society can preserve the right to keep the track and surrounding land from be dozed under they will make a statement and carry the banner for not only stock car racing history but historical places altogether. Let's hope they can rally enough support to put a stop to DOT and big government. There is one public official supporting the Occoneechee group, this official is worth re-electing.

If the Historic Speedway Group and Bill Crowther and his group had not done what they have accomplished so far this would probably would have already happened. These guys deserve all the support we can give them. I'm in 1000%+. We need to show our support of racing history and our great friends at HSG. Let me know where and when to show up and I'll do my best to bring a freaking army!!!!

I'm wondering if we applied for a demonstration permit if we couldn't turn it into a festival of preserving Occoneechee at the same time. Start somewhere a couple miles from the track and march in protest of the development plan to the gates of the track. Call WRAL to do a story about our plight. Let the racing public know what the DOT wants to do to our racing history.

I like my dad are very appreciative of the response. And I know all the other members of Historic Speedway Group will feel the same way. Im just proud to be involved with a great group of people like HSG. And i'm also proud of all the great friends I have met on Racers Reunion. We always have each others back when a problem arises. Its like the song that the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates adopted its like the same as the people on here. The song of course is "We are Family". They won the World Series and I think we can win at this situation. But thats what HSG, all the great people that helped bring back Columbia, and Racers Reunion are: Family!
