Richmond Track "Tearing Down" Over 10,000 Seats That No Longer Sell - Sad, Sad, Sad

Current NASCAR

Their is no telling, Jimmy. I don't know how Nationwide and Truck series makes it. I mean nobody goes anymore. And the local short tracks are even more in dire straits around here. I went by Orange County Speedway, the Saturday night after we had our show. I happened to glimpse into the stands since you can see it from NC 57. I know there had to be only 100 people there, if that. The parking lot was less than a quarter full. Back in the 1980's and early 90's when I regularly attended, you had to get there early to get a great seat and to keep from parking in the boondocks. I truly am ashamed what racing has become. But Nascar can now lay in the bed that they made. They turned their backs on us loyal fans and now they need us. Oh well they won't see me coming back ever again. Another sad thing is NHRA is struggling also. But hey all you have to do is go about 70 miles west of where I live and they pack the grandstands every time at Bowman Gray in Winston-Salem. They know how to put on a show on that bull ring.

Where is the lost "CBS - 60 MINUTES" Diane Sawyer taped interview of "King" Richard Petty? Destroyed? Located in CBS ARCHIVED PHOTO/ FILM SALT MINE VAULT?

Stock Car Racing History

You know I was at the 30th anniversary celebration in 1988. And I remember the film crew being there. Of course I didn't know it was CBS filming segments for 60 minutes. Great post I never knew that they had planned to do a segment on "The King".

The 7th Annual Occoneechee Orange Speedway Celebration of the Automobile and Racers Reunion was Awesome

Stock Car Racing History

Glad everyone enjoyed their self. I know I had a great time. Very glad the weather cooperated this year. Couldn't have asked for 3 better days. From what we figured Jeff there was about 60-65 race cars at the show. Also we figured attendance for the show was at it's most, since the first show back in 2007. Thats hard to believe also, we have already have held seven shows. Again thanks to everyone who came out this past weekend.

Most Popular Driver... Ho hum

General

Nascar has to give him something. I mean he cant win on the track. Hasnt won in 3 years and the one race he won with Hendrick was on fuel mileage at Michigan. As long as he is driving he will win this "award".

A Wonderful Day at Occoneechee / Orange Speedway Celebration Saturday

General

Dave i've heard that story about my dad and his snow cone so many times. But it never gets old. I'm sure Gene told you he bought my dad a snow cone a couple of years back at the Columbia Speedway event. Also I have a story about Gene. A couple of years ago me and him got invited to Duke University to lecture a class about the history of stock car racing. Now I know you know how Gene loves to talk. Well the lecture was 2 hours long and I got to speak about 5 minutes of it. Gene had that class in the palm of his hand. I didnt care I didnt get to tallk. I enjoyed every minute of him talking. Gene is a wonderful man. I'm proud to call him a good friend. I always love to joke around with him! He is a class individual.

TV Shows I miss

General

Always enjoyed TNN broadcasts of the short track races that the Busch series ran at. Orange County, South Boston, Myrtle Beach, Nashville Fairgrounds speedway. Now those were some great races. I appreciate Nascar for messing all that up. They know how to screw things up very well.

Wally, I loved watching American Sports cavalcade with NHRA drag racing. I was happy that NHRA rereleased the yearly drag racing videos on dvd last year. As I have purchased the years 1986-1995. I plan on getting through 1999 also soon.Watching that show on Sunday evenings on TNN with my dad always will be a great part of my life.

TV Shows I miss

There was a race show on TNN that Neil Bonnett hosted. It was called "Winners". Always thought that was a great show. It was a shame we lost Neil back in 1994. I always liked him as a driver and he was great commentator for CBS for the Winston Cup races they had.
