As the calendar turns to 2012, I'm putting out feelers again for memories, photos, etc. from those who were fortunate enough to see Richard Petty win. I'm working on blog entries now for his victories in January through March. If you got to see the King win any of these races, please let me and I'd enjoy incorporating your stories, memories, photos, etc. into my blog entries.

You can respond here, message me here at RR, or e-mail me at toomuchcountry (at) gmail (dot) com.

Wow. Can't believe that I only saw one on the list. That was the 1977 Carolina 500 , oras it was so fittingly referred to "the 24 hours of Rockingham" I was sitting on the backstretch with my first wife, her brother and his wife. Richard dominated the race but the race seemed to last foreverwith 11 caution periods and an average speed of only 97 miles an hour. There was a number of spins and crashes right in front of our vantage point. My most vivid memory of the race is of a gentleman spectator in front of us who had sat in some chewing gum. Every time he would rise the chewing gum would stretch with him. We all got a good laugh out of that. Oh yeah, and the tickets were only 8 bucks. Not exactly a stellar race report, but the race was pretty much a snoozer.
