April 24, 1960 - Lee Petty Wins Weaverville

On this day in 1960, Lee Petty won at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway to claim his 50th career GN victory. No one could have foreseen that Lee would only win 4 more times in his career before having it all but ended at Daytona 10 months later. And as so often seemed the case for Lee, a bit of controversy was involved in awarding him the trophy. Read on for more:

Thanks, Chase. As you point out, Lee seemed to be involved in his share of controversial finishes.
