From the archives of Raoanoke, Virginia's WSLS Television stored at the University of Virginia Library, a promo for the 1960 4th of July Firecracker 250 at Daytona using footage from 1959.

The footage of the #25 Thunderbird being ripped apart by Daytona's Armco guard rail sending the engine and front wheels into the air is the #25 Thunderbird of Tommy Herbert in the 1960 Daytona 500. When you watch this footage you can see why Tiger Tom Pistone wanted a life jacket and breathing gear in case he landed in Lake Lloyd!

Awesome Dave!!! Loved the video. I must ask, however, if you have a library card for this library. You've been hitting it a lot lately. But oh how I'm loving what you're adding.

What a change! It's been awhile since I've checked in and I'm quite surprised. It may take me awhile to figure it our but first look it's really great.

Tim, as time permits, I'm trying to look year by year through the archive which runs 1951-1971. Most of the racing footage is Martinsville, but I''ve found a little Rockingham, Daytona and Charlotte.
