Grand American race #14 of 1970 was the second visit that year to the Hickory Speedway, a .363 mile paved oval with similar results. Tiny Lund started on the pole and led the first 78 laps before Wayne Andrews moved to the front for two laps. Lund went back to the lead until he was passed by Max Berrier who held the top spot for 42 laps. Berrier then pitted and handed the lead back to Lund who pitted giving the lead to Jim Paschal. Paschal led for 17 laps before Lund went back out front for good. Tiny crossed the stripe just a few car lengths ahead of Paschal who was only a few car lengths ahead of Andrews.
8th place finisher Ned Setzer was a regular late model sportsman competitor at Hickory and was driving the Toy Bolton Camaro normally driven by Charlie Blanton.
The victory was worth $1,200 and was the 11th of the year for Lund who had failed to land in victory lane only 3 times that year.
