In memory of Glen McDuffie on his birthday

Dennis, do you know what year the April 14 Sanford clipping is from? When I was going over to Sanford on Friday nights in 1968, 1969 & 1970 Glen nearly always won the Late Model feature. By the way, the photo of Glen's car was taken near the front stretch Start/finish line of Wilson County Speedway. You can see the Wilson concession stand tucked in under the seats. That grandstand was built on top of a major Wilson County Fairgrounds exhibit building that ran most of the length of the front stretch.

Thanks, Dennis. I think when I got over to Sanford your Dad was busy on the Grand American circuit because I don't recall seeing him.

Dave, Dad started driving for Reid Shaw in 1968, a asphalt late model Chevelle, at selected events so he was only running his dirt track Chevelle part time, mostly at Rockingham. Dad did most of the work on both cars so it limited the time he had to run his car. By 1969 all of dad's racing was in NASCAR events.

I watched Glen many times at Wake County.

I remember Glen and the #70 racing at the Leland Raceway (Wilmington) occasionally. He was always a threat to win, in the gold-metallic Ford. At the time, the hot set-up among Ford racers was the de-stroked 427. Seems the combination was a 427 block with a 390 crank....it all resulted in a Ford 396 big-block engine.....lots of torque, and would spin-up faster than the 427.
