I can remember just siting in the den with my Uncle Bobby watching the races and eating nachos. I was about 4 years old when I started watching the races and now 29 years later I still eat nachos and watch them. well even at that age I loved to see the race. The cars with different colors and how they would play tag. I hated the shows in between and I almost always wished they would run over time. Any Way today races have evolved and they are good to but nothing beets the good old days when Petty won. I do wish they would stop talking so much and race more.Happy 4th everyone!

My Dad got me interested in racing about 47 years ago and although we didn't eat Nachos, I had to run to the 'fridge to get a beer for my dad about every 100 miles. Keep in mind the races were run in less than an hour on TV. I don't watch too much racing anymore on TV, but when I do I ask my kids to get me a beer and they say get it yourself. I guess more than just the racing has changed from back in the day. Great post, Cindi. I agree with you with all the chatter from the announcers.

Yes I had to do that to nothing like the race without a bud.

I always tell folks that I remember when Indycars had no wings, when sprint cars had no cages, when dragsters had the motor in front, and when the only thing it said on the hood in NASCAR was "427 C.I." Of course, those were also the days when I had to go without TV or radio all day on Memorial Day so I wouldn't hear who won Indy until the tape-delay broadcast. Those were also the days when we were losing handfuls of drivers every year to fires and volunteer safety crews. So again, both eras have their unique appeal, the one common thread is that it's still motorsport, and that's what's really important.
