Dave Fulton
3 WRANGLER Amigos - 1981
RR member NCMarrk posted this photo on Twitter back in April 2015, but it didn't seem to make its way here.
Pictured left to right are Joe Whitlock, Robert M. Odear and Dale Earnhardt, Sr. in 1981 posing beside the Wrangler hospitality van owned by Earnhardt car owner, Rod Osterlund and driven by Osterlund PR man, Whitlock and his wife, Snow. Snow was born as Pamela SNOW White and later married Atlanta motorsports journalist, Ed Hinton. Whitlock called Hinton his "husband-in-law!"
Odear was Blue Bell, Inc.'s Group VP and president of domestic operations for Wrangler Jeans, sponsor of the Osterlund/Earnhardt combo. Odear was a former RJ Reynolds executive who helped start the Winston NASCAR sponsorship. Whitlock at the time was employed by Osterlund.
This photo was most likely taken in the infield at either Daytona or Atlanta early in 1981, probably by Dozier Mobley. The van disappeared when Jim Stacy bought the team from Osterlund in July 1981.
All three men pictured are deceased as is photographer, Dozier Mobley.
Dale Earnhardt is wearing the same outfit as in in NCMarrk's photo, including shirt in these race day photos from Atlanta in March 1981 taken by RR member, Robert Turner.
Here's the story of Joe Whitlock's wedding to Snow White in Daytona in 1973:
